I've never been a huge booster of Finger Lakes rieslings--they're pleasant enough in my experience--good for the local New York market, but not enough to displace anything from Washington State or Alsace once shipping enters the equation.

But this cellared bottle by longtime Seneca lake grower Steve Shaw made a nice impression on me:  bright gold-green color, crisp green apple and pear aromas, with the same on the palate bound by bracing acidity and a bit of vanilla on the finish. Not an overabundance of complexity, but I'd bet it would gain more with another 3-4 years.

It drank nicely--and quickly. Pair with medium cheeses, Singapore noodles, or just a nice Summer afternoon.
