You don't need to check Google Analytics to know that beer has been blowing up all across the US over the last several years--and like any trend, Vegas may be late for the party but it makes up in extreme enthusiasm.

In addition to several spots with impressive beer selections up and down the Strip--as well as a growing number of local breweries--Vegas is hosting an unprecedented number of beer-focused fests in the next few weeks, starting tonight. In fact, I probably haven't listed them all!

But here goes:

Mandalay Bay hosts their impressive Beer Weekend starting Friday, organized by Mandalay Bay Director of Food & Beverage (and Nevada’s first female certified cicerone) Sarah Johnson. There is a special dinner on Friday night at Mix, a Sunday brunch at Fleur with Hubert Keller, and inbetween, Saturday's big event.

Participating breweries include: Firestone Walker, Brooklyn Brewery, North Coast, Goose Island, Lagunitas, The Bruery, Dogfish Head, Moody Tongue, Karbach Brewing, Upright Brewing, Arizona Wilderness, Ballast Point, Ninkasi, Cismontane, New Belgium, Santa Fe Brewing, Alesmith, Stone, Stillwater Artisinal, Speakeasy Ales & Lagers, Golden Road, and local breweries Big Dog’s, Tenaya Creek Chicago Brewing Company, Joseph James Brewing, Bad Beat Brewing, Crafthaus Brewery, Banger Brewing and Tahoe Mountain Brewing Company. along with cuisine by Vegas’ award-winning chefs Hubert Keller, Michael Mina, Alain Ducasse, Shawn McClain, Matthias Merges, MGM Grand’s TAP and Bardot Brasserie.

Also Saturday, Vegas' most beloved Germans Siegfried & Roy tap the first keg (7 pm) to signify the beginning of six weeks of Oktoberfest at the Hofbrauhaus, serving a special German-brewed Oktoberfestbier. Along with eating authentic schnitzel and pretzels--and drinking beer, of course-- "Patrons can test their strength during the stein holding competitions and Jägermeister spankings" it says here.

Sept. 20 welcomes the Downtown Brew Festival (click for more info) at the Clark County Amphitheater, with over 200 craft beers from 60 breweries and food from Comme Ca, Forte Tapas, DW Bistro, Truck U BBQ and Nacho Daddy. This is one of the best deals of the bunch.

Don't even think of tapping out yet. The following weekend on Sept. 27, MGM hosts its Blvd Brew Fest, featuring three dozen Oregon brewers--including powerhouse brands such as Descutes Brewery of Bend and Rogue Ales of Ashland--as well as headling artists including Kings of Leon at the newly dubbed Resort Village, an open-air lot across from the Luxor on the Strip. This one would definitely be distinguished more by quality than quantity.

Now, don't get confused but that SAME Saturday at the Boulevard Pool at Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas is "Desert Hops," an International Beer Festival sampling 150 beers from 25 countries.
