Buried in the Spring 2013 issue of VEGAS magazine was an item in which "The Modern Mixologist," Tony Abou-Ganim, picked (reluctantly) his five favorite Las Vegas bars. The influential bar consultant, who just released a new book on tasting vodkas, is not only a longtime Vegas resident, he's also responsible for spearheading the cocktail revival there.

The list won't shock anyone who knows Tony, nor would it raise eyebrows among anyone familiar with the Vegas Cocktail scene of the moment. But it's still a good list, and for those planning to visit Las Vegas, you might as well listen to the expert. In no particular order, Tony chose:

Petrossian Bar (Bellagio resort)

Vesper Bar (The Cosmopolitan resort)

Herbs & Rye (West Sahara Blvd.)

Downtown Cocktail Room (East Fremont Street, downtown)

Nora's Cuisine (Boca Park, Summerlin)

By the way, Petrossian Bar is about to formally announce a major upgrade to their already estimable bar program. Expect Jerry Thomas to nod in his grave. And watch this space for details...
